Josh’s Motorsport Blog – December 2013

Josh Smith blog entry

MVT RosetteSo it’s December and the motorsport season is pretty much finished with the F1 title going down to the wire with an exhilarating final race at Interlagos in Brazil with Vettel taking his 3rd championship in a row. Pedrosa wrapped up the Moto GP title as Casey Stoner said farewell in his retirement race whilst Loeb had already wrapped up the WRC crown long before the end of the season and will move on next year to a slightly different programme of motorsport.

The college race car is coming along nicely and we are on schedule to be ready long before the race season. The new engine will be back in before Christmas whilst modifications to the pedal box and wiring loom will make the car more comfortable and hassle free next year.

A new awning will shortly be ordered as well and will display the Nelson Thornes range of MV books as part of our sponsorship agreement.

Now we are at the end of the season, race teams will also be starting their winter rebuild programmes for their cars and confirming their racing plans for the 2013 season. As a student, now would be a good time to contact such teams and look for a placement over the winter to become familiar with the team set up before the hectic race calendar begins. There will also be a variety of winter race series acting as a test/warm up for drivers moving in to a new championship.

As graduates, you will also see a lot more jobs available and websites such as racestaff.com and autosport.com are great places to look along with the normal list of recruitment agencies such as Reed. Now is also the time for companies to begin taking applications for graduate schemes which are an excellent way to get a job at the level that suits you whilst still being trained on the job in the industry you desire to be in.

Have an excellent Christmas all and I will be back in January.
