We’re now in September and back to school! FE students have started back already whilst the HE students return at the end of the month. This is a vitally important time for both staff and students with the transition phase from one level to the next being vitally important in order to hit the ground running. A great research paper can be found here.
The F1 calendar has returned after the summer break and Sebastian Vettel ensured that Lewis Hamilton’s victory at the last race was quickly forgotten about. The speed shown by the Red Bull driver shows just how good the package is and that they can quickly react in the development race. The next race moves onto the high speed Monza circuit where a low drag set-up is essential on the super-fast Italian track. Once Monza is over, the teams move away from the ‘European season’ and onto the ‘Fly-aways’ where hopefully we will see a tighter fight at the front with the Mercedes expected to go well at the Asian circuits.
In MotoGP, the dominance of Marc Marquez was broken by Spanish compatriot, Jorge Lorenzo at the Brittish GP at Silverstone. Marquez still managed to extend his championship lead after beating team mate, Pedrosa into 2nd place. In a relatively unsuccessful race for British riders Cal Crutchlow and Bradley Smith, the Moto2 race was at least positive, with Brit, Scott Redding winning to further extend his championship points lead.
The Bridgwater College race team has just one round of the Castle Combe Sports championship remaining, having now won the Class B championship, we are just 1 point behind the leader of the overall championship. This is a great performance from a college race team, who can be followed on Facebook (just search, Bridgwater College Motorsport). I am a great believer of coupling both qualifications and experience together and this is something we try to inspire our students to do. The motorsport industry is flooded with motorsport graduates looking for jobs and building your CV to include both qualifications and experience will help you in your career path for sure.
